Bad news for anyone visiting these popular areas in Cape Town

The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate announced that roadworks in Fish Hoek and Simon’s Town would commence this week, disrupting movement through the towns.

It advised residents and all road users that, in the best-case scenario, roadworks in the two areas would begin this week.

According to the directorate, the work in Simon’s Town will include both road resurfacing and road remarking, while in Fish Hoek, road marking work will take place along Fish Hoek Main Road.

“Residents, businesses and road users in the Simon’s Town and Fish Hoek area can expect some noise and temporary traffic disruptions while the work is under way,” said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

“Motorists are requested to approach the work areas with caution. We thank you for your patience and cooperation while these maintenance works are under way.”

He added that the roadworks are part of the City’s ongoing road maintenance programme to provide a smoother and safer travelling surface for residents.

Quintas noted that it is part of how the local government plans to keep the City of Cape Town and its residents and visitors moving.

The work is expected to take place between 07:30 and 18:00, Monday to Saturday, and will take several months to finish.

Disrupting movement through the small towns

The City’s Urban Mobility Directorate confirmed that roads in Simon’s Town will benefit from the majority of upgrades.

According to the unit, resurfacing work will take place along Simon’s Town Main Road from the City of Cape Town Municipal Boundary to Valley Road in Murdock Valley.

This work will cover approximately 1.2km and is planned to take place up until 11 December 2026, between 08:00 and 18:00, Monday to Saturday.

To accommodate this, temporary shoulder closures will take place between 07:30 and 18:00, Monday to Saturday, while residents can expect temporary lane closures during the last three weeks of the project.

“Traffic will, however, be accommodated through the work area, as inbound and outbound lanes won’t be worked on simultaneously,” the City confirmed.

“Road marking work will also take place along Simon’s Town Main Road from Fish Hoek Main Road to Court Road, as well as along St Georges Street from Court Road to Flora Steps.”

This work is planned to be completed by Thursday, 26 November 2026, but will take place between 07:30 and 18:00 from Monday to Saturday until then.

In Fish Hoek, residents and visitors can expect road marking work to take place along several key road sections.

These include Fish Hoek Main Road from Kommetjie Main Road to the bridge over the Silvermine Stream, and Kommetjie Main Road from the bend near Sun Valley, opposite Harrington Road, and from 16th Avenue to Fish Hoek Main Road.

The work in Fish Hoek is planned to take place until Thursday, 26 November 2026, and will be completed between 07:30 and 18:00 every Monday to Saturday.
