The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) has announced the official fuel price adjustments for November 2026.
The Basic Fuel Prices (BFP) of petrol and diesel are going up this month; however, motorists will see prices fall at the pump thanks to a temporary reduction in fuel taxes.
October proved to be a volatile month for energy prices, with Brent Crude oil climbing from $96 per barrel to a peak of $116 per barrel between 28 September and 23 October.
However, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced in October that the government would re-implement a temporary relief measure to reduce the impact of the fuel price hikes.
Consequently, the General Fuel Levy (GFL) will be slashed by R1.50 per litre for petrol, and R3.00 per litre for diesel.
This tax cut will be implemented from 4 November until 1 December 2026.
With this in mind, here are the official fuel price adjustments for South Africa for November 2026 after the GFL reduction has been factored in:
- Petrol 93 – Decrease of R0.01 per litre
- Petrol 95 – Decrease of R0.01 per litre
- Diesel 0.05% (wholesale) – Decrease of R1.10 per litre
- Diesel 0.005% (wholesale) – Decrease of R1.20 per litre
In line with the provisions of the Self-Adjusting Slate Levy Mechanism, a Slate Levy of 135.84c/l will be implemented in the price structures of petrol and diesel this month.
What you’re paying this November
The new fuel price adjustments will take effect on Wednesday, 4 November 2026.
The average international product price of petrol and diesel increased during the period under review.
Prices rose due to tightened global supply and higher seasonal demand in the northern hemisphere as it heads into winter.
This is despite initiatives to enhance global supply of diesel by the G7, the waiving of Russia Sanctions by the US as well as the lifting of export restrictions by Russia, according to the DMPR.
These factors led to higher contributions to the BFP of petrol and diesel by 80.41c/l and 94.22c/l, respectively.
Furthermore, the rand depreciated against the US dollar during the period under review, falling from R16.21 to R16.55 per USD.
This led to higher contributions to the BFP of petrol and diesel by 36.93 c/l and 49.00 c/l, respectively.
The table below indicates how the official fuel price adjustments for November will reflect at the pump:
| Fuel type | Inland price | Coastal price |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol 93 | R29.87 | R29.08 |
| Petrol 95 | R30.24 | R29.37 |
| Diesel 0.05% (Wholesale) | R30.85 | R29.98 |
| Diesel 0.005% (Wholesale) | R32.09 | R30.83 |
