Aston Martin Valkyrie Spider revealed – Photos

Aston Martin has created its most extreme open-top vehicle to date – the new Valkyrie Spider.

A limited production run of only 85 units was revealed at Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, with the new car featuring a removable hard-top roof.

“The Aston Martin Valkyrie is the product of incredible innovation and technology, but above all, it has always been about emotion. With the Valkyrie Spider we are taking that passion and emotion to the next level,” said Aston Martin.

“The sound of that 6.5-litre V12 engine revving to over 11,000 rpm with the roof removed is something I cannot wait to hear.”

Design

The lightweight removable roof is comprised of a carbon fibre central panel that latches onto the Valkyrie by the windscreen and rear of the cabin – allowing for it to be easily removed and stowed away.

This lack of a roof resulted in additional changes to the “normal” Valkyrie on which the car was built, including a revision of the carbon fibre structure and recalibration of the active chassis system and active aerodynamics.

The car’s gullwing doors had to be changed, too, with front-hinged, dihedral versions taking their place.

These changes have not had a drastic effect on the Valkyrie Spider though, as it can still achieve over 1,400kg of downforce at 240km/h in track mode.

Power

The Spider comes equipped with the same hybrid powertrain on the normal Valkyrie, which has a maximum power output of 865kW and 900Nm.

This set-up consists of a single electric motor producing 120kW and 280Nm, and a high-revving, 6.5-litre, V12 engine that makes 745kW and 740Nm.

All this power is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed sequential gearbox – allowing for a 0-100km/h sprint time of 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 350km/h – or 330km/h with the roof off.
