T-Roc specs

The new T-Roc is positioned between the recently-launched Taigo and the larger Tiguan in VW’s T-SUV range.

The entry-level Design trim boasts an assortment of luxurious features comprising a leather multi-function steering wheel, dual-zone climate control, all-round LED lights, a digital driver’s display, an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless entry and start, park assist with front and rear parking sensors, cruise control, and high-beam assist.

On top of this, it is offered with a stylish two-tone paint accentuated by chrome embellishments, 17-inch “Johannesburg” alloys, and silver anodised roof rails.

Moving to the R-Line, this model is set apart on the exterior through sportier bumpers, 19-inch “Misano” wheels, and black roof rails.

Inside, it also gets a raft of additional equipment such as Nappa leather seats, “Lava Stone” dash inserts, touch-sensitive steering wheel buttons, Sports suspension, an upgraded infotainment system, lane-keep and lane-change assist, proactive passenger protection, and adaptive cruise control.

Powering VW’s newest SUV is either a 1.4-litre or 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, depending on the model.

The cheapest specification comes with the 1.4-litre motor generating 110kW and 250Nm, paired to an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox that drives the front wheels.

Combined fuel consumption for this setup is pegged at 6.3l/100km and 0-100km/h is finished in 8.4 seconds.

The larger motor can then be had in both the mid-range Design and top-end R-Line models, producing 140kW and 320Nm with power sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission.

These derivatives return a higher fuel consumption reading of 7.3l/100km and sprints to 100km/h in a quicker 7.2 seconds.
