New Mercedes-Benz EQ electric cars – South African pricing listed
The South African pricing for the new Mercedes-Benz EQ electric vehicle (EV) range has been listed on the company’s website.
The line-up consists of the EQA and EQB crossovers, the EQC SUV, and the EQS luxury sedan, with these vehicles being on show in the country for the first time at this weekend’s Festival of Motoring.
The EQE sedan as well as the EQS luxury SUV are also still planned to go on sale locally, but at a later date.
EQA
The new entry-level EV from Mercedes is the EQA, which will be available in two trims, Progressive and AMG Line.
The crossover sees a single electric motor fitted to the front axle putting out 140kW and 375Nm, with 0-100km/h finished in 8.6 seconds and top speed rated at 160km/h.
The 66.5kWh battery delivers a range of 429km and a maximum charging speed of 100kW DC is supported, which will get the EQA from 0-80% in under an hour. With an 11kW AC charger, it takes five hours and 12 minutes to do the same.
The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Mercedes-Benz EQA are as follows:
- Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 Progressive – R1,169,500
- Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 AMG Line – R1,222,500
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.
EQB
The larger of the two crossovers, the EQB boasts four-wheel drive across the range thanks to an electric engine strapped to each axle, putting out a combined 215kW and 520Nm.
For this battery-powered Mercedes top speed is also limited to 160km/h, but it finishes the 0-100km/h sprint in a faster 6.2 seconds.
Maximum driving range for the EQB then comes in at 423km, while it supports the same charging speeds and gets the same 66.5 kWh battery as the EQA.
The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Mercedes-Benz EQB are as follows:
- Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 4Matic Progressive – R1,374,500
- Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 4Matic AMG Line – R1,427,500
- Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 4Matic Edition 1 – R1,518,900
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.
EQC
The EQC, like the EQB, also drives all four wheels with two motors, but sees a higher output of 300kW and 760Nm.
This also lets it accelerate to 100km/h in a quick 5.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 180km/h.
With an AC Homebox charger at 7.7kW, the SUV takes 12 hours to charge from 0-100%, and with a rapid 150kW DC plug, it takes 45 minutes to go from 0-80%. Maximum driving range is pegged at 437km.
The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Mercedes-Benz EQC are as follows:
- Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4Matic – R1,679,000
- Mercedes-Benz EQC 400 4 Matic AMG Line – R1,679,000
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.
EQS Sedan
The EQS Sedan is the flagship of the EQ line-up in South Africa, and it is currently also the only Mercedes EV with a proper AMG derivative, in the form of the EQS 53.
The rear-wheel-drive 450+ variants generate 245kW and 565Nm, resulting in a sprint time of 6.2 seconds, a top speed of 210km/h, and a maximum range of 782km.
In the AMG, buyers can expect a healthy 484kW and 950Nm put down through all four wheels, sending the luxury sedan to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds and on to a top speed of 220km/h, with driving range being a slightly lower 586km.
The 107.8kWh power source in each EQS Sedan further supports up to a 200kW DC incoming current for similar quick-charging speeds as its siblings. However, on an AC Wallbox at a maximum rate of 7.7kW, it will take 16 hours and 45 minutes to go from 0-100%.
The South African pricing and model line-up for the new Mercedes-Benz EQS are as follows:
- Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ Sedan – R2,615,100
- Mercedes-Benz EQS 450+ Sedan AMG Line – R2,755,100
- Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4Matic+ Sedan – R3,410,000
Each purchase includes a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan and an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty.
