The fastest Porsche ever made – What you will pay for the new Taycan in South Africa

The pricing for the updated Porsche Taycan has been uncovered, revealing that South Africans can expect to pay a minimum of R2.9 million for the supercar when it arrives later this year.

Initially, Porsche South Africa confirmed to TopAuto that the revised electric vehicle (EV) would land on our roads in the fourth quarter of 2024, with its model line-up and localized pricing to be determined closer to the time.

However, thanks to Duoporta vehicle information specialists, we have already found the new Taycan listed on the company’s configurator detailing all the available specifications and perhaps more importantly, the South African pricing structure.

Upon launch, we can now reveal that the local Taycan selection will include seven individual models across standard and Cross Turismo body styles, with pricing as follows:

  • Porsche Taycan – R2,912,000
  • Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo – R3,239,000
  • Porsche Taycan 4S – R3,261,000
  • Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo – R3,405,000
  • Porsche Taycan Turbo – R4,349,000
  • Porsche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo – R4,383,000
  • Porsche Taycan Turbo S – R5,225,000

According to this, the starting price of the base Taycan will see an increase of R435,000 from its current sticker of R2,477,000, while the top-of-the-range Turbo S will go up by R811,000 from the R4,414,000 it is sitting at now.

The fastest Porsche ever produced

Porsche has given the refreshed Taycan a new rear-axle motor which has raised the power cap for each model, with the base Taycan going up by 70kW to reach 370kW, while the Turbo S has gained 140kW for a new total of 700kW.

The result is that the supercar’s 0-100km/h acceleration time has been reduced from 5.4 to 4.8 seconds on the lower-end models, and from 2.8 to 2.4 seconds for the flagship.

As a result, the Taycan Turbo S now carries the accolade of being the fastest-accelerating Porsche ever made, ahead of the 918 Spyder which claims the 100km/h mark in 2.6 seconds.

Furthermore, the battery’s capacity has increased from 93kWh to 105kWh, which has improved the luxury car’s driving range tremendously.

Depending on the model, it can now drive up to 678km in highway conditions on the WLTP standard, and a staggering maximum of 821km in urban settings – a massive improvement over the previous iteration’s 431km.

Charging has also been improved as it can now use an 800V DC outlet at a rate of 320kW, allowing it to achieve a 10-80% charge in 18 minutes when it previously took 37 minutes.

The Taycan additionally comes standard with adaptive air suspension, and the regenerative brakes can now return up to 400kW during heavy deceleration.

New equipment then includes a reverse camera with a parking assistant, ambient lighting, heated front seats, a Porsche Intelligent Range Manager, a wireless charger, and updated functionality for the car’s driver, infotainment, and front passenger displays.

The four-point LED headlights now feature HD Matrix technology, and the exterior’s Stuttgart badges can be made to light up with welcome and leaving animations.
