Best-selling bakkies in South Africa

December marked the end of what has been a great year for bakkie sales, with several models selling tens of thousands of units.

The Toyota Hilux naturally held onto the top spot in the final month of 2024 with 2,962 sales to its name – 260 more than in November.

This was followed by the Ford Ranger in second, which racked up a respectable 1,924 purchases, though this is a drop of 324 from the month prior.

A more significant decline was experienced by the Isuzu D-Max, which dropped 678 units to end with 1,086, but this was still enough to comfortably give it third place.

In comparison, the Mahindra Pik Up in fourth managed 390 sales, and the Toyota Land Cruiser climbed up two places to end in fifth with 352 units moved.

The VW Amarok also moved up from seventh to sixth thanks to 315 paying customers, while the Nissan Navara fell from fifth to seventh with 300 registrations in total for the month.

The GWM P-Series found 169 buyers which saw it claim the eighth position, and the Peugeot Landtrek was able to break into the top 10 and secure ninth place with 126 sales – likely boosted by the introduction of new workhorse models.

Finally, there’s the next-gen Mitsubishi Triton which sold 65 examples during its second month on the market.

Overall, the top 10 bakkies accounted for 7,653 purchases, or 18.5% of the 41,273 cars sold in South Africa in December.
