How much monthly instalments are on the cheapest new VW T-Roc

The new VW T-Roc will cost its owners R10,750 a month if bought on a finance plan, according to a calculation by TopAuto.

The latest crossover to be put on sale by VW, the T-Roc is a mid-range entry from the German automaker, filling the gap between the recently-launched Taigo and the more expensive Tiguan.

The new crossover is available in a choice of three trim levels driven by two turbocharged powertrains.

The entry-level model sports a 1.4-litre petrol engine to deliver 110kW and 250Nm, with fuel consumption listed at 6.3l/100km using an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Upgrading to the 2.0-litre variants will grant 140kW and 320Nm, though this will result in a worse fuel consumption of 7.3l/100km.

In terms of styling and exterior fittings, the T-Roc boasts LED lights, a two-tone paint scheme, chrome or gloss black highlights, and 17 or 19-inch alloy wheels.

Moving inside, standard features comprise a leather multi-function steering wheel, keyless entry, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, park assist with front and rear sensors, and an 8.0-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Monthly payments

In order to determine how much would need to be paid every month to afford the entry-level VW T-Roc, we can use the following formula:

  • Car price – R563,800
  • Payment term – 60 terms (5 years)
  • Interest – 9.5%
  • Deposit – 10%
  • Balloon – No balloon payment
  • Extras – No optional extras

According to this, the VW will require a monthly payment of R10,751.

It is then recommended by financial experts that you do not spend more than 20% of your gross monthly salary on vehicle payments.

Therefore, we can determine that anyone who is interested in purchasing the T-Roc will need to earn a minimum of at least R53,755 a month to be able to “afford” the car.

Bear in mind, however, that this figure does not include the costs of actually running the vehicle such as insurance, fuel, and maintenance – which must also be considered when determining your car buying budget.
