2022 was the “year of turnaround” for Alfa Romeo, the legendary Italian manufacturer playing an integral part in the financial records of its new parent company, Stellantis.
Alfa recorded an exceptional performance in vehicle registrations in the Eurozone in comparison to 2021, with both Germany and Italy seeing an increase of 22%, Spain 28%, Netherlands 84%, Austria 85%, France 101%, Greece 163%, and Portugal 174%.
“Globally, the results describe a stable situation with business performance mirroring the consolidated results in 2021 and noteworthy performances in Turkey that stands out in the global landscape as the fastest growing market, quadrupling volumes compared to 2021,” said the automaker.
Tonale to the rescue
Alfa attributes its positive achievements in 2022 to the new Tonale, which debuted in February and launched locally in November, as the hybrid SUV represents the first step in the brand’s “zero-to-zero” roadmap.
Zero-to-zero is “a process that will lead Alfa Romeo to be the fastest brand in the global automotive landscape in the transition from zero electrified cars (beginning 2022) to an entire zero-emission range in 2027,” said the company.
In pursuit of this goal, Alfa has also overhauled the Giulia and Stelvio’s design and technology to bring to make them even more competitive in their respective segments.
To that end, the Giulia was voted the “best performance car for thrills” in the 2022 What Car? car of the year awards, while the Stelvio recorded a 25% growth in sales in Asia.
Alfa had a great year in motorsport, too, improving its overall standings in the prestigious Formula 1 championship.
In the constructors’ standings, the team jumped from ninth place in 2021 to sixth place in 2022. Similarly, the drivers scored an overall 10th and 18th in 2022, compared to 18th and 20th in 2021.
Last year was on for the record books and this one promises to be even more challenging, and Alfa is more than prepared to take the bull by the horns.
