3 used cars you can buy for under R150,000

When shopping for a new vehicle, a popular price is the R100,000-to-R200,000 bracket.

There are many good pre-owned deals found here – if you keep factors such as service history, mileage, and make and model in mind.

To see what the market offers for the middle of our budget, we found three vehicles for R150,000 which show the variety of choice you will face in this segment.

2011 Audi A1 1.4T FSI Ambition S-Tronic

The A1 is a popular entry-level premium hatchback from Audi.

As with its more-expensive siblings, the A1 is treated to the finer features that this large brand has at their disposal.

The most notable is an infotainment display on top of the dash that can’t be found in too many 10-year-old hatchbacks.

The 1.4-litre, turbocharged engine produces 90kW of power and 200Nm of torque, which will see a 0-100km/h time of just under nine seconds and a top speed of just over 200km/h.

The A1 in question here has a complete service history, although it is due for another one; 74,000km on the clock; and a price of R144,900.

2017 Hyundai i20 1.2 Motion

Hyundai is the fourth best-selling brand in South Africa for February 2021, and they achieved this by offering good vehicles with extensive after-sales services.

The 1.2-litre motor in this i20 generates a reasonable 61kW of power and 115Nm of torque, achieving a low claimed combined fuel consumption of 5.9l/100km.

The Motion trim line is then fitted with a cloth interior, multifunction steering wheel, and a Bluetooth-enabled infotainment system as standard.

This particular i20 has a partial service history, 42,000km on the clock, and will cost you R145,900 to own.

2017 Renault Duster 1.5 DCI Dynamique

At R150,000 you can expect to start cracking the bottom-end of the crossover market.

The Renault Duster is a popular option at this level, and for good reason.

The high-riding crossover produces 80kW and 250Nm out of its 1.5-litre, turbocharged, diesel motor – which is more than most of the competition in this bracket.

Additionally, a hard-wearing interior with leather seats and a decent infotainment screen sweetens the deal.

This Duster has a complete service history, 71,000km on the clock, and a price of R146,900.
