New Mazda CX5 goes on sale in South Africa – Pricing and features

Mazda has officially launched the new CX-5 in South Africa, marking the start of the next chapter for the brand’s most iconic SUV.

The Japanese carmaker has announced the pricing and specs for the new vehicle, which is now available for pre-order. The first units are scheduled to arrive in September.

“With the arrival of the all-new Mazda CX-5, we are introducing a vehicle that perfectly embodies Mazda’s commitment to creating meaningful experiences through exceptional design, intuitive technology, advanced safety and engaging driving dynamics,” said Deolinda Da Costa, Head of Marketing and Communications at Mazda Southern Africa.

“The CX-5 has long been one of Mazda’s most important global nameplates, and this latest evolution builds on that success by offering South African customers even greater levels of safety, connectivity, comfort, versatility and ownership confidence.”

“Guided by our Jinba-Ittai philosophy, the new CX-5 has been designed to create a deeper connection between driver and vehicle, while delivering the practicality and reassurance that modern lifestyles demand.”

The new CX-5 is available in four specifications – the Active, Dynamic, Individual, and Homura – with prices starting at R578,350.

Engine

Under the hood of the new Mazda is a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, which puts out 132kW and 240Nm.

The first two models, the Active and Dynamic, are front-wheel-drive, while the Individual and Homura are all-wheel-drive.

In all four cases, a six-speed automatic gearbox sends power to the tarmac, resulting in an average fuel consumption of between 7.6l/100km and 7.7l/100km, depending on the wheel configuration.

Features

The new CX-5 is larger than the old models, though the carmaker stated that the body has been streamlined to improve airflow and reduce drag.

In terms of features, the Mazda comes standard with 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and start, a leather multifunction steering wheel, cloth upholstery, a 10-inch digital driver display, and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Additionally, the SUV has a driver safety and assistance suite that includes automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind spot detection, front and rear parking sensors, and a reversing camera.

Depending on the trim level, you can also expect nice-to-haves like leather seats with heating and ventilation, an electric tailgate, a Bose stereo, bigger 19-inch alloys, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera system.

Pricing

The local pricing for the new Mazda CX-5 SUV is as follows:

Each purchase comes with a 5-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty and a 5-year/unlimited-kilometre service plan.
