New Nissan Tekton launched in South Africa – Pricing and features

Nissan has finally launched the new Tekton in South Africa, marking the next step in the brand’s product offensive.

The Japanese carmaker is looking to expand its catalogue with fresh offerings meant to help it compete with Chinese rivals.

This process started with the new X-Trail in July, and we now have the Indian-built Tekton crossover.

Motorists can also expect the new Patrol, the updated Navara, and a special-edition X-Trail in the near future.

Nissan reaffirmed its commitment to our market, following the sale of its factory in Gauteng to Chery earlier this year.

The new Tekton is available in five specifications, and prices start at R339,999.

Engine

Manufactured in Chennai, India, Nissan’s new crossover offers one of two turbocharged petrol engines.

The first is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder block reserved for the entry-level Visia trim, which is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and generates 74kW and 160Nm.

The other four models use a larger 1.3-litre, four-cylinder mill with a much higher output of 120kW and 260Nm, which sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).

Features

The Tekton’s design is meant to be a nod to the company’s flagship SUV, the Patrol, featuring a muscular SUV design with modern touches like an aero-tuned spoiler, chrome grille, and flush roof rails.

Up front, it has C-shaped LED headlights with daytime running lights that mirror the ones used on the upcoming Patrol.

At the back, you’ll find C-shaped LED taillights and a “double-C contrast skid plate.” Depending on the model, the crossover has either a set of 17- or 18-inch wheels that provide a ground clearance of up to 212mm.

The vehicle itself has a 700-litre boot, which expands to 1,789 litres when the rear seats are folded.

All models come standard with air conditioning, a multifunction steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a 10.1-inch infotainment screen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The higher grades, such as the Tekna and Tekna+, will then add dual-zone climate control, a wireless charging pad, push-button start, ventilated front seats, leatherette upholstery, an electric driver’s seat, a powered tailgate, and a two-tone exterior.

Standard safety equipment includes six airbags, electronic stability control, ABS with all-round disc brakes, hill-start assist, rear parking sensors, a reversing camera, and tyre-pressure monitoring.

The top models also come with a multi-view camera, rain-sensing wipers, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) with Lane Keep Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Traffic Sign Recognition, Front Collision Warning with Autonomous Emergency Braking and Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control.
