Omoda and Jaecoo on a roll in South Africa

Omoda and Jaecoo are killing it in South Africa, reporting significant sales growth every quarter.

The Chinese carmakers, often referred to as O&J, recently announced that they achieved a 26% increase in sales in the third quarter of 2025 (Q3) compared to Q2, and 50% more than in Q1.

The premium duo’s year-to-date sales have now reached 8,543 units, illustrating remarkable progress in the relatively short time the two brands have been on sale in South Africa.

O&J stated that they expect sales to exceed 11,000 units by the year’s end, helped out by the addition of upcoming models like the new Omoda C7.

September proved to be a particularly good month for the pair with 1,201 examples sold across both marques.

O&J provided a breakdown of each car’s sales:

Omoda C57844,408
Omoda C953204
Jaecoo J5200303
Jaecoo J7164557
Total:1,2013,472

The C5 is by far the most popular option, which is hardly surprising considering it’s the most affordable model.

For reference, these are the starting prices for each car:

The J5 is also off to a good start, considering that it only went on sale in Q3.

The mid-range J7, which was Jaecoo’s only product prior to the J5’s introduction, has seen a fair amount of interest, though it’s understandable that the more affordable J5 has already overtaken it.

“We’re encouraged by the strong momentum seen in the third quarter,” said Hans Greyling, General Manager of Omoda & Jaecoo South Africa.

“The response from local drivers shows that design, technology, and value remain key priorities, and our expanding line-up continues to deliver on all three.”

O&J in South Africa

Omoda and Jaecoo are both brands under the Chery Holding Group, which serve as a premium alternative to their parent company’s Tiggo line of SUVs.

Omoda was the first to launch in South Africa back in 2023 with the C5 crossover, and Jaecoo debuted one year later with the J7 SUV.

The two nameplates function as a single brand in South Africa and ostensibly offer two flavours of SUVs.

Jaecoo is meant to cater to those who prefer a classic 4×4 look and feel with models better suited for the outdoors, while Omoda specializes in sleek designs meant to stand out in any street scene.

Omoda later introduced the C9 as a luxury competitor to SUVs like the BMW X3 and Audi Q5, and Jaecoo brought in the J5 as a more affordable alternative to the J7.

Both brands are set to bring even more cars to South Africa in the near future, as Omoda is gearing up to launch the mid-range C7, and Jaecoo has plans to launch its flagship J8.

Further down the line, Omoda will also bring in the entry-level C4 crossover (previously called the C3), which made its global debut in China earlier this year.
