Mercedes-Benz has announced the local line-up and specifications of its upcoming EQE electric sedan, which is reaching South African shores in the next few months.
The EQE is touted as being a sporty business saloon that “offers all the essential functions of the EQS in a slightly more compact format.”
At launch, the battery-powered Mercedes will initially be available in the classy 350+ as well as athletic AMG 43 grades.
Following the debut of the EQE Sedan, the automaker has confirmed that the local market will also be getting the EQE and EQS SUVs before the end of the year, bringing it electric product roster up to a total of seven models.
EQE Sedan specifications
Locally, the entry-level EQE 350+ will be powered by a single, rear-mounted electric motor that generates 215kW and 565Nm, allowing the four-door to sprint from 0-100km/h in 6.4 seconds.
On the AMG variant, the front and rear axles get a battery-motivated engine thereby giving this model a much higher output of 350kW and 858Nm, resulting in a 0-100km/h dash of 4.2 seconds. The 43 also drives all four wheels, whereas the 350+ only turns the rear tyres.
For both sedans, the top speed is limited to 210km/h and both are equipped with a 90.56kWh battery pack that provides a driving range of up to 645km in the base model and up to 535km in the range-topper.
This battery module supports an impressive maximum DC charging capacity of 170kW, which will see these EQEs power up from 10-80% in as little as 32 minutes.
On a three-phase AC current like what owners would have at their homes, a full 0-100% charge will then take nine hours and 15 minutes with an 11kW plug, and four hours and 45 minutes when making use of a 22kW adaptor.
“More details on the local Mercedes-EQE range will be announced later this month,” said Mercedes-Benz.
