VW has revealed the local pricing of the new Tiguan R, which is scheduled to go on sale in South Africa later this month.
The new SUV will have a South African starting price of R999,900, making it the top-spec model in the Tiguan line-up.
Each purchase will also include a 3-year/120,000km warranty and a 5-year/100,000km maintenance plan.

Under the hood of the new Tiguan R is a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine producing 235kW and 400Nm, linked to VW’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system and a seven-speed DSG gearbox.
This gives the sporty SUV an acceleration from 0-100km/h of 5.1 seconds, just 0.3 seconds slower than its hatchback counterpart – the Golf R – with top speed clocking in at 250km/h.
Alongside the upgraded powerplant, VW has made several other changes to improve the Tiguan’s performance.
This consists of an upgraded chassis, new adaptive shock absorbers, torque vectoring, 18-inch brakes with blue calipers, and a 10mm-lower ride height.
Owners will also be able to select various driving profiles, including Sport and a model-specific “R” mode, which is activated via a blue R button found on the multifunction steering, which is also equipped with paddle shifters.
Visually, the R differentiates itself from its siblings with a matte chrome finish to the exterior, new bumpers with R branding, black wheel arches, and a set of 20-inch Misano alloy wheels.
Inside, owners can expect keyless start and entry, cruise control, a panoramic sunroof, climate control, front and rear park assist, ambient lighting, a carbon grey finish on the dashboard and interior panels, and seats upholstered in Nappa leather styled with an R logo.
Additionally, the Tiguan comes with a 10.25-inch all-digital driver display, and VW’s Discovery Pro 8-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, wireless App-Connect, and voice commands.
Optional extras on the SUV then comprise adaptive cruise control, LED Matrix headlamps, larger 21-inch Estoril wheels, a heads-up display, a Harman Kardon sound system, an area view camera with park assist, lane change assist, trailer assist, and autonomous emergency braking.
