What a Cape Town Formula E ticket costs – And how many are left

Formula E is coming to South Africa for the first time and is set to make its debut in the city of Cape Town in just over a month.

The local leg of the racing series will take place on the 25th of February with a track that loops around Greenpoint Stadium and the surrounding areas.

Of course, motoring enthusiasts will be able to watch the action from one of several stands around the circuit, but these seats are filling up fast.

Tickets

Thousands of tickets have already been sold, but the good news is that there are still plenty of seats up for grabs as of the time of writing.

The track has a total of 12 turns, and four main seating areas will be positioned at key intervals around the circuit to give attendees the best view of the event.

You can see the layout of the Cape Town circuit below:

A viewing area on Vlei road between turns 12 and 1 will overlook the start and finish line of the race, with a total of four stands to be erected here.

Stand number 4 is sold out, but stands 1 to 3 still have a combined 484 tickets for sale, with prices starting at R2,295 per person at TicketMaster.

There is also a dedicated area for wheelchair users, with prices also starting at R2,295 per ticket.

Past the first corner, there is a viewing area on Helen Suzeman boulevard between turns 1 and 2 with a total of eight stands, though only three of these still have seats.

There are currently 1,128 seats available in this section, as well as another wheelchair area, and ticket prices start at R1,995 per person.

Further up the track, there is a viewing area between turns 3 and 4 on Granger Bay boulevard with two stands that still have a combined 681 seats up for grabs, and these tickets have an asking price of R1,595 per person.

Finally, there is a stretch along Sea Point’s promenade on Beach road between turns 9 and 10 where three of the four stands still have a combined 209 seats on offer, and these tickets will set you back R3,450 per person.

What’s available

In total, this means there are 2,502 seats still on sale at the time of writing for those who would like to catch Formula E’s sub-Saharan African debut in the coming weeks, with prices as follows:

  • Granger Bay boulevard – R1,595 per ticket
  • Helen Suzeman boulevard – R1,995 per ticket
  • Vlei road – R2,295 per ticket
  • Beach road – R3,450 per ticket

Ticket sales are limited to 20 per credit card, and Ticketmaster warns on its site that persons who try to exceed the limit may have all of their orders cancelled without notice.

Furthermore, children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, said the event organizers.

What to expect

The 2023 Formula E Grand Prix will mark the start of a five-year commitment to have the racing series in Cape Town.

“The race will be the highlight and focal point of a weeklong programme of activities that are intended to showcase the potential of electric vehicles by way of an e-Mobility Festival,” said Iain Banner, the Chairman of race promoters e-Movement.

The track itself is 2.8km long and its 12 turns will allow for a series of tight maneuvers while also containing a nearly one kilometre long sprint that will allow the drivers to push their cars to the limit.

Moreover, this year will mark the debut of the third generation of Formula E cars, with teams including Jaguar, Maserati, McLaren, Nissan, and Porsche all competing.
