5 important things that happened in South Africa’s car industry this week

These were the five biggest stories in South Africa’s transport industry this week.

New Suzuki Swift goes on sale in South Africa

The next-gen Suzuki Swift has been officially launched in South Africa.

The popular hatchback is now available in five variations, with prices starting at R219,900.

Every model is powered by a new 1.2-litre engine with better fuel efficiency than the previous units.

Lamborghini’s cheapest supercar arrives in South Africa – Pricing and features

The new Lamborghini Urus SE has landed in South Africa, opening a new chapter for the iconic brand.

The SE is the “cheapest” Lamborghini in the country, asking for a minimum of R4,875,000.

The new SUV is a plug-in hybrid, marking the end of pure combustion models for the popular Urus.

Trouble for FlySafair

The International Air Services Council (IASC) has ruled that FlySafair’s shareholding structure is non-compliant with South African law.

Ownership regulations for domestic airlines limit foreign shareholdings in a registered airline to 25%, however, a reported 74.86% of FlySafair shares are owned by Ireland-based ASL Aviation Holding.

The IASC ruling has sparked concerns that the FlySafair could lose its operating licence, putting even more strain on the country’s limited air services.

These Chinese SUVs now have the longest engine warranties in South Africa – With a catch

GAC Motors has introduced a new lifetime engine warranty for its SUVs – the longest coverage of any brand in South Africa.

This title was previously held by Chery and GWM, which offer a 10-year agreement with varying distance caps.

Importantly, the warranty is only valid for the first owner, meaning it will not benefit anyone who purchases a pre-owned GAC.

New Ford Mustang officially goes on sale in South Africa

The new Ford Mustang GT has launched in South Africa at a starting price of R1.3 million.

The muscle car features nothing short of a 5.0-litre, naturally-aspirated V8 petrol engine, making it the most powerful GT to date.

A few weeks from now, the Blue Oval will also introduce the more exclusive Dark Horse, which retails for R1.5 million.
