New Suzuki Vitara Brezza – What to expect

Suzuki has unveiled the new Vitara Brezza showing off what’s to come for the popular compact SUV.

The facelifted crossover is “loaded with hi-tech features” and brings a refreshed look through new front and rear styling.

The new Vitara Brezza has already gone on sale in India in six specifications but its local launch date has not yet been revealed. However, considering the current model’s popularity in South Africa it’s safe to assume it will eventually be sold here, too.

TopAuto contacted Suzuki South Africa for comment on the local launch of the crossover, but it did not respond by time of publication.

What to expect

The new Vitara Brezza sports a restyled exterior with a new gunmetal front grille, redesigned dual-LED projector headlamps, a revised range of alloy wheels, a raised hood, visible skid plates, and modern LED tail lamps.

The traditional radio antenna on the roof is now also replaced by larger roof rails and a sharkfin fixture.

Moving inside, a dual-tone interior with honeycomb patterns lends the cabin a sportier feel than before and an asymmetric design puts more emphasis on the driver.

The new elements continue with a flat-bottom leather steering wheel, wider instrument binnacle, coloured heads-up display, 360-degree camera, wireless charging dock, and “layered dashboard” housing a larger 9-inch infotainment display now mounted upright instead of integrated into the front fascia.

In addition, standard equipment in the Indian models includes automatic headlamps, automatic airconditioning with rear vents, a cooled glovebox, rear-seat USB ports, hill-hold assist, reverse parking sensors, and paddle shifters on the automatic models.

Many of these amenities are also featured on the updated Suzuki Baleno that recently launched in the South African market, so we would not be surprised to see them on the Vitara Brezza when it eventually lands in our showrooms.

Like the current Brezza, the updated derivative in India is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine generating 76kW and 137Nm

This unit can be paired with either a five-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearbox, with fuel consumption ranging around 5.0l/100km, depending on the model.

The new Suzuki’s overall dimensions further come in at 3,995mm long, 1,685mm tall, and 1,790mm wide – meaning it’s only 45mm wider than the pre-facelift model thanks to the beefier plastic claddings on the wheel arches.

As a result, cargo capacity remains unchanged between the siblings at 328 litres.
