The cheapest Toyota Hilux currently on sale in South Africa has a starting price of R336,100.
The Hilux is South Africa’s most popular bakkie and was in fact the best-selling car in the country last year, with over 30,000 units making their way off the showroom floor.
The automaker recently updated the series, adding new features to key models and establishing the pricing for the range for 2023.
This is what you get when purchasing the most affordable Toyota Hilux currently on the market.
What you get
The model in question is the Hilux 2.0 VVTi S, which is available as single cab only with a petrol drivetrain.
The bakkie is equipped with a 2.0-litre, naturally-aspirated powerplant matched to a five-speed manual gearbox, which gives it an output of 102kW and 183Nm.
This results in a fuel consumption figure of 8.0l/100km, which allows for a maximum driving distance of approximately 1,000km thanks to the 80-litre tank, and a top speed of 170km/h.
Additionally, the bakkie is pushed by the rear wheels only and boasts a ground clearance of 187mm.
Regarding its practical capabilities, the Hilux has a loadbox measuring 2,315mm x 1,575mm x 480mm, which lets it carry a payload of 1,115kg (1.1 tonnes). It is capable of towing up to 1,500kg (1.5 tonnes), too.
The Japanese high-rider comes standard with 15-inch steel wheels, a full-size spare wheel, halogen headlights, and electronically-adjustable side mirrors.
Inside, the Hilux single cab has two seats covered in vinyl upholstery and a sound system with two speakers and a radio.
It also gets anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution, and three airbags for the driver, driver’s knee, and the passenger.
Air conditioning, however, is an optional extra that will raise the purchase price of the bakkie to R346,000.
