Official petrol price decreases for September announced

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has released the official fuel price adjustments for September.

Thanks to an improvement in global oil prices and the rand/US dollar exchange rate, both petrol and diesel have seen a big reduction.

The adjustments took effect this week Wednesday, 4 September.


New VW Tiguan launched in South Africa

VW has officially introduced the next-gen Tiguan in South Africa at a starting price of R651,500.

The SUV has six different variants, though only three are available at launch.

The remaining units will be added later in 2024 and early 2025.


Alarm bells for South Africa’s new driver’s licence cards

French company Idemia has been selected as the preferred bidder for South Africa’s new smart driver’s licence cards.

The decision was met with skepticism by the Automobile Association (AA), which raised questions regarding Idemia’s selection process.

It demands that the Department of Transport make certain information available to the public, including the reason for selecting Idemia, and the timeframe for the country’s new smart cards.


Cape Town is getting a new international flight next month

FlySafair is launching a new international flight between South Africa to Namibia in October.

The route will operate between Cape Town International Airport and Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek.

Flights are scheduled to take place twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays.


New BMW hot crossover for South Africa

BMW has quietly launched the new M35i derivative for the X1 in South Africa.

The M-badged model is fitted with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, giving it a much higher performance ceiling than its siblings.

The M35i is positioned as the flagship of the range with a starting price of R1,188,600.
