All the new Toyotas that went on sale in South Africa in 2022

On average, Toyota launched a new car every month and a half in 2022 with a total of eight model introductions stretched out over the span of the first 11 months of the year.

First up was the RAV4 Hybrid E-Four in March, marking the first time this vehicle has been available both in hybrid and four-wheel drive in South Africa.

A rather quiet two months passed and the silence was broken with the new Starlet hatch, following this, additional units of the updated GR Yaris Rally made an appearance in July.

The GR Yaris was previously intended to be a limited-edition model only forever capped at 25,000 units for the globe, however, after fervent demand from enthusiasts, the automaker decided to continue producing the four-wheel-drive hot hatch while simultaneously expanding its GR brand.

Fast-forward to August, and Toyota launched the updated C-HR with a fresh set of alloy wheels and paint schemes, while later during the same month the athletic Corolla Cross GR-Sport was revealed.

Another GR-Sport came to market in September in the form of the highly-popular Hilux which is the only GR-Sport-branded model out of the three that is currently on offer with a more powerful engine than the vehicle it is based on.

Toyota took the new-energy push even further in November by bringing to South Africa the first hybrid Corolla hathback.

To end the year right, the country’s best-selling manufacturer kept the best for last and unleashed the all-new GR86 into the wild with lively handling, a naturally-aspirated engine with a generous red line, and to-die-for looks.
